Premiered in 2014 at the Teatro Metropolitano in Querétaro, Mexico, Nican Mopohua is a large-scale musical telling the story of Juan Diego’s encounter with the Virgin of Guadalupe. Beyond the personal tale, it traces the history of Tenochtitlan from its founding and the Spanish conquest to the miraculous apparition showing how these events united two cultures and shaped a new identity.

Performed with a cast of over thirty and a chamber orchestra, the musical combines history, devotion, and theatrical storytelling.
